Since 2001, Udesen Danmark had manufactured, advertised and sold wines with labels made of tin portraying various events, such as activities (golf, hunting etc.) or special occassions (birthdays, wedding days etc.).

In 2007, Excellent Wine started to offer the wines named “Hunter’s Choice”, “Congratulation” and “Golfer’s Reserve” with labels made of tin (see picture).

Udesen Danmark detained that their “event labels made of tin” were satisfactorily unique in order to function and to be protected as trademarks since trademark rights had been recognized through use of the marks. Udesen further quarreled that Excellent Wine’s labels illustrating the same motives and categories of events were confusingly parallel according to the Danish Trademarks Act to the rights protected by Udesen Danmark.

The Court found that Udesen Danmark’s tin labels did not have intrinsic distinctiveness and further that Excellent Wine’s motives varied with regard to their style and content. Neither the bottles in their whole nor the labels were sufficiently distinctive in order to enjoy protection as trademarks and consequently no trademark violation had taken place.

The interim injunction laid down by the local Bailiff’s court was canceled.

Pepsi bottling company is investing $150 million (euro105 million) to construct Europe’s largest bottling factory in Romania, officials said Monday.

The industrial unit will be located west of Bucharest, the capital of Romania, and will cover over 30,000 square meters. It will open on Sept.1, 2009.

In 2007, PepsiAmericas took over the group of Quadrant-Amroq Bottling QAB, a Pepsi producer and distributor in Romania.

The two production units for QAB Romania are in Bucharest and the other one in Covasna, in central Romania.

This bottle is made from clear glass with a sloping-collar finish and is embossed with "JACKSON'S NAPA SODA WATER" AND "NATURAL MINERAL WATER/CARBONATED/JACKSON'S/THIS BOTTLE IS NEVER SOLD".This bottle of Jackson's Napa Soda Water was recovered from Old Sacramento SHP in 1966.

In 1859 chemist Robert Chesebrough was the first to extract the key ingredient of petroleum jelly, petrolatum, from a substance left on oil drill rigs. This jar of Vaseline Chesebrough is made from clear glass and embossed with "TRADE MARK/ VASELINE/ CHESEBROUGH/ NEW YORK".

Vintage- Ninety-five percent or more grapes in the wine were grown in that year.

Appellation of Origin- The name of the place in which the greater part of the grapes in the wine were grown.

Viticultural Area- An area that is a grape-growing area with soil, climate, history and geographical features that distinguish it from the areas around it.

Net Contents- The quantity of the product in the container in metric units.

Varietal Designations- The name of the leading grapes in the wine. Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel are the example. A varietals designation means that at least 75 % of the grapes used in the wine are of that mixture.

Estate Bottled- One hundred percent of the wine came from grapes grown on land prohibited or owned by the winery. The winery must complete the complete wine making process on their premises.

Name and Address- The bottler or importer's name or trade name and address should appear on the wine label. If the wine is imported, it should be followed by the name and address of the importer.

Country of Origin- Necessary for all imported wines, for example "Product of (name of country)".

Alcohol Content- Alcohol content in percent by volume must show on the wine label.

Declaration of Sulfites- Necessary if the wine contains 10 or more parts per million of sulfur dioxide.

Health Warning Statement- "GOVERNMENT WARNING" should appear on all alcoholic beverages containing .5% or more alcohol.

It is equally appropriate for researching complete labels as well as bottle label fragments and is suitable for use by bottle collectors as well as historical archeologists. The finding aid is available as a Microsoft Word document or as a text file. The data file was built as a text file to allow the researcher to employ word processing software text finding aides (a "word search") to locate strings of letters, complete words, or combinations of words which appear on a bottle or bottle fragment. It includes about 6,080 entries.

The embossed label listing was compiled using information from 38 archeological reports and popular bottle publications. Printed labels were not used in the data file's compilation.

This finding aid has proven itself to be an extremely rapid means of identifying an embossed medical bottle or fragment and sources of information for that specimen. The company became public in 1913 with the issue of 100,000 shares.

Over time it has bought out many other brewers, such as Abbotsford Co-operative Brewery in 1924 (a company set up by independent hoteliers to combat the anti-competitive nature of the Society of Melbourne Brewers.) Their first interstate acquisition was Northern Australian Breweries and the Cairns Brewery in 1931. Further acquisitions were the Ballarat Brewing Company, Queensland Brewery Ltd, Thos McLauchlin & Co Pty Ltd, Richmond Brewery and Tooth & Co.

In 1983 as an ironic twist of fate, CUB was wholly bought by Elders IXL, a giant Australian diversified conglomerate with Pastoral, Financial, Materials and Food interests. Elders Brewing Group (as it then became known as) continued to acquire brewing companies in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Finally in 1990 Elders Brewing Group changed its name to Foster's Group, to reflect the name of their most internationally recognised product.

In July 2004, Carlton and United Breweries changed its name to Carlton and United Beverages (retaining CUB acronym), citing the company's diversification into pre-mixed drinks, juices, ciders and non-alcoholic drinks

Peter Forrestal, co-editor of the Wine Magazine, described the Benedictine Abbey Shiraz 1998 as light in body and made as an early drinking style showing a lovely honest fruit nose and a palate of gentle macerated cherry and red berry flavours.

Let’s face it, some labels just plain refuse to be taken off the bottle. However, there is more than way to peel a label – given a little patience.
The following is a summary of tips based on our experiences. These methods do not guarantee success. Read the whole passage, including the caveats. Proceed with caution and practice on labels you can stand to lose first. That being said, the labels we remove and save for personal purposes are removed with the Bake & Peel and Hot Soak methods.
It is important, when buying your wines, to pay attention to the condition of the labels - especially if you plan to keep them. Decanting prevents drips and runs of wine down a label. Always remove labels from empty bottles.

For the serious label collector, these tools will be useful:

A good razor – see images on the right. These are most effective when used alone without any casing or grip. Be very careful as these razors are sharp. Many of our customers choose to buy our self-adhesive water bottle labels. But the question always comes up, “Which label size should I order for my personalized bottled water?” Different areas of the U. S. have different bottle shapes and sizes. Since we have don’t know which bottle you plan on using, we offer two standard sizes of water bottle labels. We ingeniously call them the small water bottle label and the large water bottle label.
How do you know which size will work for your custom water bottle project?

Follow these easy steps:
1. Cut two pieces of paper in our two label sizes:
a. 2"H x 7½"W -- small
b. 2¼"H x 8½"W -- large
2. Wrap each size paper around the bottle of your choice at the store.

3. Choose the size that works best for your bottle and note this in the “Special Instructions” box during the order process.
